leela_cat… sorry if it’s a bit geeky, but this is what came out. ☺
Disclaimer: Belongs to JKR, not me. Just for fun.
Neville adjusted the protective mask as he prepared to harvest the Stinksap produced by his beloved Mimbulus mimbletonia. He’d been surprised to learn it could be used as a potions ingredient – but then, he’d been so nervous in Snape’s class, he didn’t learn much about potions in the first place.
“Lancio!”
As the Stinksap began to ooze out, Neville caught it with one of the phials he’d set aside. When he’d filled the six phials Bill had requested, he used a healing spell to seal the leaking cyst.
Neville stepped to the Floo, intending to call Bill in the potions lab, when the fire flared green, and Bill’s face flickered among the flames.
“Did you collect it?”
“I have it right here. Want me to come through?”
“Please do.”
Neville passed through the Floo into the potions lab, handing over the phials of Stinksap and shaking off the ashes that always seemed to cling to him after even the shortest Floo trip.
“So what is this potion you’ve been working on?” Neville asked.
“It’s a repellent for Chizpurfles.” Bill replied as he lowered the heat under a series of cauldrons that had been simmering on the workbench. “Hagrid told me the Thestrals have all been infected.”
“Is that serious?” Neville perched on a stool, out of Bill’s way. He loved to watch Bill work, but still wasn’t comfortable being too close to the action of the potions lab.
“It is if left untreated. They like to live in the fur or feathers of magical creatures. The Thestrals will be rendered unable to fly if the parasites aren’t removed.”
Bill carefully emptied each phial into a cauldron, stirring a figure-eight pattern with a glass rod. The potion, which had previously been green, turned a translucent silver as a faint wisp of pale smoke arose from its surface. He cast a Stasis charm over each cauldron and turned towards Neville.
“The potion needs to cure for an hour before I can give it to Hagrid. Do you have to get back to the greenhouses?”
Neville shook his head. “Not for another hour or so. The Mimbulus prefers to heal in solitude, and the other plants have been attended to for now.”
“Perfect,” responded Bill as he unbuttoned his trousers. “Have you ever fantasised about making love in a potions lab?”
“Not until recently,” Neville grinned and pulled his jumper over his head.
