The cleric in front of them looked to be older than Albus Dumbledore had been when Neville first arrived at Hogwarts. Surrounded by their friends and family, Neville felt less nervous than he’d expected to be.
“When two wizards wish to commit to one another, it is a bond which is meant to last forever,” intoned the cleric in a rich, clear voice that belied his years. “If there is anyone present at this ceremony who has reason to believe that this bonding ceremony should not be performed today, please rise now and state your objection.”
Neville’s stomach lurched, but then when nobody moved he allowed himself to relax a little.
“Do you, William Arthur Weasley, take Neville Algernon Longbottom for your life partner, to bond with him for all your remaining days on this Earth?” the cleric asked.
“I do,” responded Bill as he flashed a grin at Neville. His earring glinted in the candle-lit room, and his auburn hair flowed freely past his shoulders, a striking contrast to the simple white robes he wore.
“Do you, Neville Algernon Longbottom, take William Arthur Weasley for your life partner, to bond with him for all your remaining days on this Earth?” the cleric repeated.
“I do,” responded Neville, no longer feeling as if a flutterby bush had taken up residence in his stomach.
“You may seal your bond with a kiss.”
Bill reached for Neville, cupping the back of his head and drawing him in for a kiss. As their magic mingled, sealing the bond, Neville could only think of the future, and what lay ahead of them, together forever.
