“Feels like it’s been forever, doesn’t it?”
Neville looked up from their wedding album to see Bill standing in the kitchen doorway. “Only when I get up in the morning,” he said. “Can you believe it’s been seventy-five years already?”
“It’s practically a lifetime.” Bill sat in the chair beside Neville’s, and set the kettle to boil with a wave of his wand. He pointed at a picture of the two of them feeding each other pieces of wedding cake. “That’s one of my favourite pictures – you with icing on your chin. I just wanted to lick it off with everyone watching.”
Even after fifty years of married life, Bill could still make Neville blush. The kettle whistled, and Neville got up to fix the tea. “Earl Grey?” he asked Bill, already reaching for the tin.
“Mmm-hmm,” said Bill as he Summoned the packet of Jaffa Cakes to accompany their tea.
Neville levitated a couple of plates to the table, preferring to carry the steaming mugs of tea to the table himself.
In the next room, the antique clock bonged ominously. “Four o’clock,” Bill commented as he took a bite of his cookie and washed it down with a sip of tea. “Are you ready?”
Neville put his mug down and looked across the table at his husband. “Ready to spend the evening with two hundred of our closest friends?” he asked, smiling at Bill.
“Well, when you put it that way…” Bill chuckled.
Neville stood, and held his hand out towards Bill. “Come, love, let’s go get ready for our anniversary party.”
