A/N: Belongs to JKR, not me. Just for fun. Written for Neville's birthday, 2009 at the 30 Days of Neville free-for-all. Loosely follows Birthday Blues, written for 30 Days of Neville, 2008.
The grand ballroom at Longbottom Manor was full of witches and wizards in dress robes. A string trio played, and there were many couples dancing.
“Would you look at all these people?” commented Neville. He took a sip of his champagne punch and cast a quiet Cooling Charm – he had been dancing with Bill for what seemed like hours.
“Too many, if you ask me,” replied Bill as he refilled his own punch glass.
The annual party, celebrating Harry's and Neville's birthdays, had grown over the years from being a family-only celebration to being a Who's Who of the Wizarding world. Luna and Draco were dancing in a slow circle around each other, oblivious to everyone else. George, when he wasn't setting off fireworks – both outdoors and in – was dancing with Angelina, and even Percy had a full dance card, though nobody had expected him to show up as Kingsley Shacklebolt's date.
Neville slipped his hand into the crook of Bill's elbow. “Let's grab some fresh air, shall we?” he suggested, already pulling Bill towards the French doors that led out to the terrace.
“Thought you'd never ask,” said Bill as he set their punch glasses on a passing waiter's tray.
The full moon shone brightly in the cloudless night sky. It had been a cooler summer than usual, even for northern England, and Neville shivered in the chilly night air.
“Come here, birthday boy,” said Bill as he opened his arms in invitation. Neville gladly stepped into his husband's embrace, and buried his nose in Bill's neck.
Bill began at Neville's temple, and kissed a path down his cheek to his mouth. He paused long enough to whisper, “Happy birthday, love,” before Apparating them directly to the master suite.
