Neville rolled over in his sleep, moaning, “No, no!”

Bill placed a warm hand on Neville’s shoulder, shaking him gently awake. “Shhh, love,” he murmured. “You’re safe, you’re with me. It was just a bad dream.”

Neville’s eyes opened, the pupils widening in the dim light of their bedroom. “It was that damned snake again.”

“I know,” soothed Bill. He pulled his husband close, and tucked Neville’s head under his chin.

“Why won’t they just leave me be?” Neville whispered.

Bill brushed the fringe off of Neville’s forehead. “They will, love,” he whispered. “You just need a bit more time.”
