[info]100quills teenyfic: A Time to Grieve

This started out as my response to the current prompt "Prophecy" over at [info]neville100. It grew, and "prophecy" just didn't work with it, so I fit it into my [info]100quills table, instead.

Neville awoke with a start, gasping for breath, sitting bolt upright in the bed. Bill rolled over towards him, throwing his arms around Neville's waist, pulling him close.

“Another bad dream, love?” Bill asked, his voice low and sleep-rough.

Neville nodded, too tense to speak. The nightmare had been a regular occurrence since Harry's funeral a fortnight ago.

“The same one again?”

Another nod. Bill stroked Neville's forehead, murmuring sweet nothings to comfort him. He shifted on the bed, sitting behind the younger man and pulling him into the vee of his thighs.

Bill knew that his husband just needed some more time to come to terms with Harry's death, so he could stop reliving the tragic accident which he'd survived, and the Boy Who Lived had not.

“It wasn't your fault.”

“But-”

“It wasn't your fault, Neville. You were lucky to get out alive. I was lucky you got out alive.”

With a huge, shuddering sigh, Neville finally relaxed against Bill's bare chest. His shoulders shook with the sobs he'd been holding in; finally he allowed himself to weep for his lost friend.

Comments

Ah, poor Neville. And Bill does such a good job comforting him. Nicely done.
Thanks so much! *hugs*
