Neville slipped out of bed, careful not to disturb his sleeping husband. Bill had been having nightmares of late, and now he slept, at peace for the moment, thanks in part to the potion they’d concocted to control Bill’s special brand of lycanthropy.
Neville, on the other hand, was wide-awake, and it was a perfect night for harvesting fluxweed. Bill had mentioned that his stores were getting low, and tonight’s full moon meant that the fluxweed would be at its peak. The sitting room clock chimed twelve as Neville slipped out of their quarters, pulling the door closed behind him with only the softest of clicks.
Outside, the moon was directly overhead, and it was bright enough that Neville did not need to cast Lumos in order to see. His fingers flew, snipping the most perfect stems and tucking them into a cloth bag he’d brought to contain the cuttings. As always, he left enough behind to maintain the crop for the next full moon, and he returned to their quarters near the greenhouses.
Upon his return, Neville set the cloth bag on the kitchen table and cast a stasis charm over it – Bill would want to prepare the cuttings for storage himself in the morning. Satisfied with his midnight mission, he returned to the bedroom, shedding his clothes as he walked.
Bill was snoring softly when Neville slid back under the covers, but he rolled over and threw an arm over Neville’s waist as his head hit the pillow. Neville snuggled into his husband’s embrace, and finally fell asleep.
