Since I don't think one drabble makes me an author, I'm taking the point of view of a fanfiction reader instead.
Ideally, as a reader, I'd love for fandom to settle in one place, so that I can easily keep track of everyone. I have lots of time, right now, being on summer break, but once I go back to work in September, my free time diminishes greatly. We've already started the exodus from LJ, and we're starting to learn that GJ may be just as bad, from a fandom POV.
IJ, so far, seems like a good option, but I worry that eventually it will become more like the other journaling sites. Remember, they exist for anyone who wants a blog, not just fandom. Some have suggested that fandom needs its own home - besides archives, I suppose, so that we may blog and post art and fic. But wouldn't any site, whether it is a journaling site for the web populace at large, or a fandom-specific site, be subject to the laws of the country where it is hosted?
And, speaking of laws, how many of you have seen
this article? Maybe those disclaimers authors put on their fics aren't enough, after all. And who in the mainstream (i.e.
not fandom) would understand the point of AU fics where The Boy Who Lived is anything but under-age? I'm not sure the epilogue counts, in that respect.
Any ideas? Hopefully, we can make IJ our home, at least for now, and not have to worry too much about double- & triple- posting everything so nobody misses us or our posts.
