It's July! That means a few things...

  • Weasley Fest is posting over at LJ... http://community.livejournal.com/weasley_fest/. There are already several gifts posted - including some lovely art. Check it out!

  • 30 Days of Neville has begun posting. [info]sassy_cissa posted some lovely Billville today, called The Scent of Seduction. Highly recommended if you love Billville as much as I do. =)

  • Also... regarding the 30 Days of Neville... now that it's summer, I have time to write, which is good, considering I have to post my own contribution to 30 Days on the 27th. If you haven't already filled out my poll looking for inspiration, please do so. Thanks!

Yay! Fic for me...

[info]snapesgirl_62 has written me a lovely, hot Snape/Charlie story for me as a holiday gift.

It's called Simple Joys of Manhood, and features Charlie returning to Hogwarts at the beginning of GOF and seeking out Professor Snape, the object of his teenage wank fantasies. If you like my favourite dragon-tamer and aren't squicked by * bottom!Snape * then go check it out.

H/D for me...

The one fest I signed up for this holiday season - initially - was [info]harry_holidays. Imagine my surprise when my gift fic was the first one posted!

It's called The Gay Fathers' Club, and it shows Harry's journey of discovery and a building relationship with Draco. It is a sad story at some points, and while Albus & Scorpius are friends, they are both decidedly straight, which is refreshing for an epilogue-compliant H/D story.

Go, read it, and give the mystery author some love.

Snarry Games Rec...

I haven't had a lot of time to read, lately... but I did make the time yesterday, and I'm so glad I did! I read Water Lilies and Lotus Seeds by [info]chazpure, and it was wonderful!

cut for spoilers )

Unlike many of the other offerings at [info]snarry_games, it's relatively short, so if, like me, you're way to busy to read some of the longer stories, you can get a quick Snarry fix in with Water Lilies and Lotus Seeds.

Story Rec - A Stitch in Time

I originally saw this story recced over at that other journal site in the crack_broom community.

It is a crossover, which I don't generally go for, unless I know both fandoms well. This fandom? I've known for years before I ever knew anything about Harry Potter...

Title: A Stitch In Time
Author: Tap Dancing Widow
Characters: Fred & George Weasley; Hawkeye Pierce, Trapper John McIntyre, Frank Burns, Hot Lips Houlihan, Sidney Freedman, etc.
Genre: Gen/Humour
Story Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2605090/1/A_Stitch_in_Time
Length: 13 chapters, but they're short. < 13 000 words.

Go ahead & click ... you know you want to! )

In all, it's quite a fun story. I found that Fred & George were in fine form, and the M*A*S*H gang were also very well written. Go check it out!

Story Rec - Snape/Kingsley

I have been away for the long weekend - not at Prophecy, but you know that by now if you read my last entry.

I have been catching up with my f-list, and was pleased to find this story over at [info]meri_oddities' LJ, written for [info]bethbethbeth's birthday.

Snarry Games Recs

So, I've been slowly making my way through the fics on [info]snarry_games, and while I'm now where near caught up, I thought I'd recommend a few of my favourites to date:

I usually prefer Post-Hogwarts Harry, but...

I have read several stories (pre-HBP, obviously) that did a good treatment of the Harry's-still-a-student storyline.

One of my favourites is [info]meri_oddities' story Sanguis Vinculum, which in addition to being a story set while Harry is still a student, is a forced bond fic.

so many recs, so little time

After my last entry in which I extolled the virtues of Aucta Sinistra's story, Quid Pro Quo as the first Snarry I'd read, and the one that hooked me into reading Snarry... I had many, many recs for other stories that hooked other Snarry fans.

The one with the most recs was Cybele's If You Are Prepared series ... but that also came with many warnings of "stock up on tissues", and I was in the mood for something lighter.  So, instead, I went for Tira Nog's A Nick in Time and its sequel, Growing Pains:

the story that hooked me on Snarry....

This time last year, I didn't even know what slash was, let alone reading it and even seeking it out. I'm still a fairly limited slash reader - while I've read some House, MD slash, and assorted varieties of slash based in the magical world of Harry Potter, it's a specific pairing that drew me in and hooked me.

But first, how it all began. Mid-July I was browsing one of the House Stamping communities, and did a random click on one of the users who seemed to post stamping opinions regularly. Her most recent LJ was titled "World Slash Appreciation Day" and I, being the scientifically-minded person that I am, looked it up. In the name of research. Actually, it didn't take a lot of research, because she'd listed several of her favourite slash pairings, including Ennis & Jack from Brokeback Mountain, which I'd read (before going to the movie with my GFs), but the one that made me stop and think was Snarry. Severus Snape, my favourite character, and the Boy Who Lived himself.

I highly recommend this story if you haven't already read it!

Speaking of Plan B...

Since last summer, I've read a lot of HP fanfic. One common theme, post Half-Blood Prince, is how to explain Snape's motivation for killing Dumbledore. Was he proving his loyalty to Voldemort? Was he really acting as a double agent? Was this a move designed to put Dumbledore out of his misery, free Draco from the necessity of having to kill Dumbledore for Voldemort, and further entrench Snape as a deep-cover spy for the Order of the Phoenix?

Most of the stories I've read favour the latter scenario, but most of them have resorted to rather cliche means of exonerating Snape. Dumbledore leaves a will, or a letter, or a pensieve memory in which he exonerates Snape of his murder by showing/telling how he'd ordered Snape to kill him.
